I’m featured in the first edition of bizzyhands online magazine!

About a month ago, a fellow Etsian FaerieMajikk let us know in the forums she was starting an online magazine and was looking for Etsy artists to feature in the first edition.  We were asked to submit our work, and if we had anything inspired by hearts and flowers.

I was thrilled when I got notice yesterday that my Valentine Paper Fortune cookies were selected for the first issue!

There are a number of Etsians featured, and a few articles and lots of eye candy!

You can download a flippable version of the catalogue or see it in pdf form here at http://bizzyhands.faeriemajikk.com/

Enjoy!

Happy Saturday!

Love is in the air and a Caption Challenge

This stamp from The Artful Stamper is just an image; when I saw it, I came up with my own caption and had it turned into a simple text stamp.

“Love is in the air”…it still makes me giggle

The card base is SU Chocolate Chip and I used Real Red as the mat and the ticket punch for the edges.

The word window punch was used for the sentiment.

Each boxer short was stamped twice and popped up on dimensionals, I really love this effect and it works really well with this card.

The inside was kept simple, with the sentiment and a punched heart in Real Red.

Here’s my challenge:

How many different captions can we come up with for the boxer short image?

You can leave a comment here, or on the my Face book Fan Page

This card is available at A Paper Buffet and my Etsy store; I’ve already sold one and it’s on its way to Dublin!

I want to hear your caption!!

Loving the Like-O-Meter

As soon as I saw this stamp in the new SU catalogue, I knew immediately what I wanted to do.

The Like-O-Meter makes the perfect slider card!

I used my craft knife to cut out the thermometer part and used my small circle punch and a pop dot to create the slider.

I used the smallest arrow punch from the SU arrow punch and glued it to the circle slider.

I like you a lot, but not like a stalker.

By far my favourite saying.

But I’m also partial to “you don’t annoy me”

Card base is SU Kraft paper, with Real Red matting and DP is My Little Yellow Bicycle, and has a really great subtle shimmer IRL.

This card is available for sale at the A Paper Buffet store and my Etsy store for you Etsians :)

It’s hip to be square!

I’ve been really drawn to square cards lately.  Sometimes it suits the layout much better.

I got my SU order from Sale-A-Bration last week, and had a lot of fun getting them inky right away.  Can I say a big “THANK YOU” to SU for finally making stamps we can put on Acrylic blocks! I think I will eventually switch everything over because I cannot put the rubber on a the wooden block straight to save my life. Seriously.  If anyone but me uses my stamps, everything is crooked.

I love the “I {heart} hearts” set and made quite a few cards.

It had been a while since I used the glue pad/glitter combo, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.

I will say that towards the end of my stamping, when I was on my last image; the glue pad seemed to be stronger than the bond of my cling stamp to the acrylic block.

The last “friend” heart didn’t turn out so clear because of this…but I can live with that.

I just added some more glue and poured glitter right over the word “friend” and turned it into a solid heart.

I used the Polka dot heart too.  I told you I loved this set!

The card base for all the cards are Chocolate Chip, with layers of Pretty in Pink and Bo Bunny Designer paper.  I distressed with Chocolate Chip ink and added some Pretty in Pink taffeta ribbon.

I kept the inside pretty simple, but kept the matting of the Pretty in Pink and distressing.

I’ve got a few more photos to take, then I’m dropping off some cards and the paper fortune cookies at the hair salon.  I don’t have to go anywhere this weekend, so maybe I’ll finally get to clean my house!…nah, I’ll probably make more square cards ;)

You can find these cards at A Paper Buffet and I’ve donated one of the Polka Dot cards to Hearts for Haiti, a great Etsy store where 100% of the proceeds (minus PayPal and Etsy fees) are being donated to Doctors without Borders.

Happy Friday!

Big Birthday Weekend!

This weekend was busy with milestone birthday celebrations; my friend M celebrated the big 3-0 and my Godson Ethan celebrated his first birthday! Coincidentally, both M’s and Ethan’s actual birthday is tomorrow.

Here’s the card I made for M, using my new SU Whimsical Words stamp I got from the Sale-A-Bration sale going on right now; I really love this set!

I used the same layout that I did last week, with more of the Me and My Big Ideas paper.  I made this card a standard A2 size and used Real Red as the background matting and scalloped circle.

I heat embossed the sentiment and used some glue-on rhinestones that I picked up at Michaels months ago.

I used SU Real Red grosgrain ribbon as well.

ethan1Next up is Ethan’s card; I wanted to use the same papers that I used for his invitations, so I dug through my stash of paper because I knew I had kept the scraps.

I had a new layout in my head, but wasn’t sure it was going to work.  After a few tries, it turned out exactly as I wanted it to.

Thank goodness his name starts with such a linear letter!

I drew the “E” by hand, as well as the “1” and popped it all up on dimensionals.

Here’s a detail shot:

For the inside, I created a little pocket so I could slip  my contribution to his savings account in there ;)

The Canadian government will match Canadian donations for relief in Haiti

Only 2nd to Afghanistan, Haiti receives the highest amount of Canadian support/funding/ resources than any other country.

The Canadian Government announced today they will match dollar for dollar, up to $50 million dollars, what Canadian residents donate to accepted charities, such as the Red Cross.

You can read more about this in this article from The Toronto Star.

Our C-17 DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) has just landed in Haiti and our government will be providing $5 million dollars in humanitarian assistance.

My friend Eunice is attending medical school in the Dominican Republic.  She messaged me today to say that she is ok, but was very scared when they were on Tsunami watch for 5 hours after the quake.

If you can donate, please do!!

Click on the link to the RED CROSS to be taken to their home page to make a donation.

She loves me- a Valentine for your guy

I have had this idea in my head since the Christmas holidays, and it took a quite few tries to get it just right.

We’re all familiar with the game “he loves me, he loves me not”; hoping and wishing the last petal will be “he loves me”.

I wanted to create a masculine Valentine’s card with this theme, nothing too glittery, no bows, no bling. (It was hard!!)

I used the Fifth Ave set from SU and used my MS markers to ink up only one petal on the daisy stamp.  Then I heat embossed the centre with gold embossing powder, and stamped the stem.

Here’s a close up and you can click on the picture to see a little better.

I printed the words “she loves me” in very small font, punched it out and adhered it to the single petal.

I kept the inside simple, and used reversed punches (punched through the white paper, to see the red below).

What’s most exciting is that I received my embosser and now I can emboss my logo on all my envelopes!

This card is available now in my Etsy store and I’ll be adding a “he loves me” version as well.

A Paper Cookie and an Etsy top 10!

First, I have to toot my own horn and shout:

“I made the Etsy top 10 List this week!!”

This top ten list is chosen by Timothy Adam of  Timothy Adams Designs; an awesome Etsy seller who does so much for the Etsy community.  It is truly an honour to be recognized and have someone who people really look up to say “hey, I like this, check it out”.

So what did he pick?:

None other than the Latte Love gift set!

Now that my gushing is over…let’s move on to my Valentine’s day project that I’m super excited about… a paper cookie. Yes, that’s right, a paper Fortune cookie to be exact!

I receive emails from that crafty Martha Stewart, and the cookie of the day recipe on New Year’s Day was for fortune cookies (click for the link to the recipe)…and what was my first thought?

“I bet I can make those out of paper”.

So, after a few different sizes and some folding attempts, it worked and here they are, just in time for Valentine’s day!

Honestly, they’re too stinkin’ cute for words. I’m so happy with how they turned out, and my mind is full of more ideas.

I put a few different messages in them, printed off on the computer; “Happy Valentine’s Day”; “I ♥ you” and “Be Mine”.

Fresh out of the oven…get’em while they’re hot!

Rhinestone Birthday

I was finally able to get back to the craft table last night; after the whirlwind of launching the new A Paper Buffet site, it was nice to get inky!

I received a card from my boss and really liked the layout, so I planned to case it; when I went to my LSS to pick up some paper, I found the perfect BG Bling to use for my cased card.  I chose some black and white flocked paper (been so long since I did a black and white card…I’ve come a long way baby! lol) and here’s what happened:

This card is pretty big; 5.5 by 5.5 but it works really well with the layout.

The sentiment is from Gina K. Designs; I just masked each word to get this layout.

Love that BG Bling!

I stamped a flourish on the envelope, and one is on the inside right corner too.

Can you see the flocking? I love that Me and My Big ideas paper!

I’m having fun playing with my new camera, and these pics were taken in my new official photo tent I got for Christmas!

I listed this card on the new site, and a very lovely gal scooped it up just a few hours later ;) One of my friends saw on the site and wanted it too…so I made another card in pink for his wife’s birthday :)

Such a simple layout, but the high end materials really bring it all together, dahling ;)

I’m working on a very fun Valentine’s day project, I’m hoping to get it done tonight and listed and I’ll post it tomorrow.  It’s been in my head for weeks and I’m literally falling off my chair in excitement to put it all together.  It’s getting harder to concentrate on my day job when I have so much fun with paper!

I’ll be cheering our World Junior men’s hockey team on tonight, going for 6th straight gold. Go Canada Go!

A Paper Buffet.com is now open!

apaperbuffet6 That’s right folks; after over a month of building, the independent website for A Paper Buffet is open!

What does this mean? More product, easier navigation, account member privileges (earn points towards discounts, collect them up until you want to use it!) and shopping in both Canadian and American dollars!

I’ll be continuing with my Etsy store, and will be trying to carry all products in both stores, however some will be unique to each site given the demographics.

I will be adding a Custom work gallery to A Paper Buffet so customers can see previous custom work for invitations, and other custom products.

I’ve got a million ideas in my head for new products, including some very unique Valentine’s day items, so join our newsletter to be kept up to date; new items will also be featured on the home page of A Paper Buffet.

A big thanks to all who made this new site possible and for supporting me in my effort to grow A Paper Buffet!
